MOSH Standards Notice 12-1 - Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH)

   
Subject: Revisions of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Sections of the General Industry Standards

Reference: OSHA Standard Log Entry Memo for 29 CFR PART -, 1910, excluding Parts 1915, 1917, and 1918.
 
Purpose: The purpose of this action is to revise the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) sections of the general industry standards regarding requirements for eye- and face-protective devices, head protection, and foot protection. OSHA is updating the references in its regulations to recognize more recent editions of the applicable national consensus standards, and is deleting editions of the national consensus standards that PPE must meet if purchased before a specified date. These revisions are a continuation of OSHA's effort to update or remove references to specific consensus and industry standards located throughout its standards.

Background

  1. On April 12, 2011, the Commissioner of Labor and Industry, through incorporation by reference under COMAR 09.12.31 Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Act - Incorporation by Reference of Federal Standards, adopted revisions of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) sections of its general industry standards, 29 CFR Part 1910, excluding Parts 1915, 1917, and 1918, published in 74 FR 46350-46361 (September 9, 2009). This action, which was proposed for adoption in 38:5 Md. R. 322 (February 25, 2011), has been adopted as proposed.
     
  2. This action was considered by the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Advisory Board pursuant to a meeting held on April 7, 2010, notice of which was given in accordance with State Government Article §10-506(c), Annotated Code of Maryland.

Action

  1. MOSH compliance personnel shall enforce the revisions relating to the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Standard - Direct Final Rule 29 CFR part 1910.
     
  2. MOSH Compliance and Consultation Supervisors shall ensure that training sessions are conducted on the contents of this notice.
