License Fees - Maryland Racing Commission

As of January 1, 2017, the Maryland Racing Commission will no longer charge license fees. However, Owners and Trainers will have to continue to pay the Jockey Fund of $100.00. The completion of an application will still be a requirement to obtain a license as well.

Thoroughbred License Fees:

  • Original Owner: $50.00
  • Renewal Owner: $25.00
  • Original Trainer (Must include Certificate of Workers' Compensation Insurance Information with Application): $50.00
    Note - If you have never been licensed in the State of Maryland as a trainer, you must receive your license at a track.
  • Renewal Trainer (Must include Certificate of Workers' Compensation Insurance Information with Application): $25.00
  • Assistant Trainer: $25.00
  • Stable Name (Anyone who owns 5% or more interest must have an owners license): $75.00
  • Maryland Jockey Injury Compensation Fund: $100.00
    All Thoroughbred Owners and Trainers requesting a license in Maryland must pay this additional fee.

Harness License Fees - We offer the option of a 1 or 3 year license(s):
** (If you would like to obtain a three year license, please multiply the fees listed below by 3 except for originals.)

  • Original Owner: $50.00
  • Renewal Owner: $25.00
  • Trainer (Must include Certificate of Workers' Compensation Insurance Information with Application): $25.00
    Note - If you have never been licensed in the State of Maryland as a trainer, you must receive your license at a track.
  • Driver: $25.00
  • Stable/Corp. Name (Anyone who owns 5% or more interest must have an owners license): $75.00

PLEASE MAKE ALL CHECKS PAYABLE TO THE MARYLAND RACING COMMISSION
(If you are paying for multiple licenses you only need one check for all licenses.)

Before mailing, be sure to:

  1. Complete the application and make sure you list your trainer (1st page) as well as the name you will be racing under (first line, 2nd page).
  2. Sign and date your application.
  3. Application and payment is included in the envelope.
  4. All fees have been calculated correctly. (If you are obtaining a thoroughbred license Compensation Fund + license fee)
  5. If you are racing under an entity instead of your name, please make sure you include the stable fee as well.
