Workers Memorial Day - April 28, 2025 - MOSH

On April 28, 2025, millions worldwide will observe Workers' Memorial Day, a day to honor workers who have lost their lives, been disabled, or suffered injuries or illnesses due to unsafe working conditions. Also known as International Workers' Memorial Day, this day highlights the importance of stronger occupational safety standards and promotes better health and safety measures at work.

In honor of those impacted by the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge last year and the workers who lost their lives on the job in the State of Maryland, MOSH is recognizing and remembering those who have passed. A moment of silence will be observed to acknowledge these workers. Furthermore, all Division of Labor and Industry employees will wear purple ribbons as a symbol of remembrance and a strong statement in support of safer workplaces.

In the early hours of March 26, 2024, a container ship called the Dali slammed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge, killing six workers who were doing maintenance on the surface of the bridge at the time. These workers were Maynor Yassir Suazo Sandoval, Miguel Angel Luna Gonzalez, Jose Mynor Lopez, Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, and Carlos Daniel Hernández. MOSH remembers these workers as a reminder to continue our important work in worker safety and health across our State.

The Federal OSHA Workers Memorial Day Ceremony and Wreath Laying is scheduled for Thursday, April 24, at 1 p.m. ET at the U.S. Department of Labor’s Frances Perkins Building (200 Constitution Ave NW, Washington, DC). For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be livestreamed on OSHA’s website. Recordings of both the ceremony and wreath-laying will also be available online.

Additional materials, including downloadable images and an event poster in both English and Spanish, can be found on OSHA’s Workers Memorial Day webpage.
