Apply for a Reciprocal License - Architects

To qualify for licensure by reciprocity, an individual must have met the requirements in the state of original licensure that were at least equal to those required, at that time or at the time of application, by the Maryland Board of Architects.

An architect seeking licensure by reciprocity in Maryland can apply in one of two ways:

1. Licensure through NCARB Certificate: An architect who is licensed in another jurisdiction and has an NCARB record.
   1. Apply for a Reciprocal License online
   2. To submit a NCARB Certificate. Contact National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) at 202-783-6500 for information or visit the NCARB website.
    
2. An architect who is licensed in another jurisdiction but does not have an NCARB record:

   1. Supporting document to be filed with a Reciprocal License application:
   2. Submit official grade transcripts from college(s) attended to the Board office.
   3. Submit three letters of character reference.
   4. Provide verification of licensure in another jurisdiction.
   5. Apply for a Reciprocal License online

License Period: Two-year period from the date of issuance.
