Barbering and Cosmetology Services Allowed at Full Capacity - Barbers
On Friday, May 14th, Governor Larry Hogan announced the lifting of the mandate requiring mask use indoors. This announcement was preceded by an announcement on Wednesday, May 12th, which also relaxed requirements for social distancing, capacity limits, and other restrictions indoors and outdoors in Maryland. Local jurisdictions have the latitude to impose their own restrictions at their discretion. Check the website of your local jurisdiction to obtain up-to-date information.
Why have the restrictions been lifted?
In making his announcement, the Governor cited the recent CDC guidance which indicates that fully vaccinated individuals may resume activities as normal. This is as a result of improved health indicators in the U.S. and across Maryland, driven by the increasing percentage of individuals who have been vaccinated. It is important to note, however, that both the CDC, state health officials, and the Governor strongly recommend that unvaccinated individuals continue to wear face coverings.
Boards Issue Sanitation Guidelines and Checklist for Reopening
The Maryland Boards of Barbers and Cosmetologists have prepared a reopening sanitation checklist for barbershops and hair salons to follow while preparing to open and operate. The boards suggest posting the checklist in a conspicuous location inside each business so that it is clearly visible to all patrons and employees. Download a copy of the checklist.
