#24-036 In the matter of the fifth race at Laurel Park on April 5, 2024, regarding the Offical result.

On April 5, 2024, trainer, John Robb filed an appeal with the Maryland Racing Commission. The appeal contests the Stewards' decision to not disqualify the horse “Paco the Taco Man” from first position.

As a result of that appeal, the fifth race on April 5, 2024, is hereby declared in dispute and the following ordered to remain in effect until the dispute has been settled by the Maryland Racing Commission:

(1) The purse monies affected by the dispute are to be held by the Horsemen's Bookkeeper.

#24-043 Trainer, Jamie Ness is fined Twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for not having the colors for “Tops the Chart”, entered to run in the ninth race at Laurel Park on April 21, 2024, after receiving a warning on (04/05/2024) for the same offense.

THIS IS A VIOLATION OF: [COMAR 09.10.01.09] which states in part…

“It shall be the sole responsibility of the trainer to see that his or her owner’s colors are in the jockey’s quarters to be used for his or her respective entries, failure to do so, the trainer will be subject to fine”.

(Note: As per COMAR 09.10.04.05, failure to pay a fine within 48 hours from being notified may result in a suspension of license.)

#24-044 In the matter of Stable employee Rodolfo Garcia-Rodriguez: On April 25, 2024 Mr. Garcia Rodriguez was requested to deliver urine sample by the MRC Investigators. The specimen he rendered tested positive for methamphetamine.

[COMAR 09.10.03.05 A(1)(a)(i).]

A hearing was held on April 25, 2024. Mr. Garcia-Rodriguez appeared in the absence of counsel and waived his right thereto. Based upon the testimony and evidence presented at the hearing, the Stewards found Rodolfo Garcia-Rodriguez in violation of COMAR 09.10.03.05 Drug Prohibition-Humans.

Accordingly, the Stewards hereby order:

That the license issued to Rodolfo Garcia-Rodriguez be suspended until such time as he has been professionally evaluated and deemed not a detriment to racing.

That while he is under suspension, Mr. Garcia-Rodriguez will not be allowed to work on the backside.

#24-045 In the matter of Stable employee Natasha Gammill: On April 25, 202,4 Ms. Gammill was requested to deliver urine sample by the MRC Investigators. The specimen she rendered tested positive for methamphetamine.

A hearing was held on April 25, 2024. Ms. Gammill appeared in the absence of counsel and waived her right thereto. Based upon the testimony and evidence presented at the hearing, the Stewards found Natasha Gammill in violation of COMAR 09.10.03.05 Drug Prohibition-Humans.

Accordingly, the Stewards hereby order:

That the license issued to Natasha Gammill be suspended until such time as she has been professionally evaluated and deemed not a detriment to racing.
