Maryland Board for Professional Land Surveyors

Welcome to our home page. The Board for Professional Land Surveyors qualifies and licenses individuals seeking licensure and issues permits to business entities through which land surveying is practiced. The Board regulates the practice of surveying under the provisions of Business Occupations and Professions Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, Title 15 and the Code of Maryland Regulations, Title 9, Subtitle 13. The Board investigates complaints against licensees, as well as complaints related to unlicensed practice. The Board may issue a reprimand, suspend or revoke a license or permit, and/or impose a fine.

The offices of the Board for Professional Land Surveyors are open and serving our customers through our online licensing resources, via e-mail and telephone, and by limited in-person appointments. Please note, walk-in assistance is not available. We can be reached using our contacts page for e-mail addresses and telephone numbers of individual staff members; or

Please select the type of appointment you need from our list of available in-person services using the drop-down menu on the scheduler. You will receive an e-mail confirming the date and time of your appointment.

Appointments are available Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at our offices located at 1100 N. Eutaw Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

Maryland Law and Storm Drain Examinations

Attention Exam Candidates for the Land Surveyors State-Specific Exams

Despite the release of a new Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration Highway Drainage Manual, please be advised that the Road Grade and Storm Drain section of the Maryland state-specific exam will still reference the standards, policies, and best practices in the ( MDOT SHA Drainage Manual-December 1981 ) where applicable.

The format and scoring of the exam also remain unchanged. The Board for Professional Land Surveyors works to ensure its state-specific exams align with the current practices in the field of land surveying. The Board will notify all exam candidates promptly of any changes to the state-specific study resources or exam format, including when the new SHA manual is incorporated.

*Registration for both exams ends August 30, 2024 at 12:00 p.m.*

Storm Drain and Road Grade Design: October 7, 2024; October 8, 2024
Time: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

*Entry time begins at 8:00 a.m.*

Maryland Law and Ethics: October 7, 2024
Time: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

*Entry time begins at 1:30 p.m.*

*Examinees will be notified by September 4, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. which exam date they are assigned if they have registered for the Storm Drain and Road Grade Design exam*

*If you registered for either exam before August 12, 2024, please send an email to DLOPLLandSurveyors-LABOR@maryland.gov with a copy of your receipt as confirmation. If you do not contact the Board through this email, an exam spot cannot be guaranteed.*
