Welcome to the Office of Apprenticeship!

Registered Apprenticeship isn’t just training. It’s a career-building pathway where workers earn a paycheck while gaining hands-on experience, classroom instruction, and mentorship from industry experts. No student debt or lost wages – just real opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.

For workers, it means stepping into a new career or advancing in the one they already have with the confidence that comes from mastering in-demand skills to support themselves and their families.

For employers, it’s a powerful workforce solution. Apprenticeships boost productivity, improve recruitment and retention, enhance safety, and build a pipeline of highly skilled talent ready to meet today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities.

About the Office of Apprenticeship

The Office of Apprenticeship was established through the RAISE (Registered Apprenticeship Investments for a Stronger Economy) Act of 2025 as a strategic investment to deliver family-sustaining careers to more Marylanders, to provide businesses with the talent they need, and to grow the state’s economy. The Office of Apprenticeship develops, supports, and tracks Registered Apprenticeship programs across the state and safeguards the health and safety of Maryland’s apprentices. The Office of Apprenticeship is housed under the Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning (DWDAL) which serves as Maryland’s State Apprenticeship Agency, overseeing Registered Apprenticeship on behalf of the United States Department of Labor.

The work of the Office of Apprenticeship builds on Maryland’s long-standing commitment to driving economic growth and worker protection through apprenticeship. This commitment began in 1962 and continued through the Maryland Apprenticeship Training Program (2016-2025), the predecessor to today’s Office of Apprenticeship.
