Exploring Youth Apprenticeship - Office of Apprenticeship
Start building your future workforce today! Apprenticeships connect you with motivated young workers at the start of their careers, helping you build a pipeline of talent trained to your needs – while offering them a debt-free path into the workforce.

Registered Apprenticeship
Registered Apprenticeship programs are open to workers of all ages and can engage youth as early as 16, helping them jumpstart a meaningful career with access to high-quality training opportunities.
Visit our Build an Apprenticeship webpage to learn more about developing a Registered Apprenticeship program.
The Apprenticeship Maryland Program (AMP)
Maryland also offers Youth Apprenticeships directly through the Apprenticeship Maryland Program (AMP). The AMP Program is open to juniors and seniors in Maryland public high schools across the state.
AMP Youth Apprentices join the program through their school and apply for paid part-time apprentice positions with participating employers. These apprentices take specific courses related to their occupation and receive valuable on-the-job training from their employer.
AMP Youth Apprentices receive course credit for both the classroom and work portions of their apprenticeship. Upon graduation, AMP Youth Apprentices can continue on to a Registered Apprenticeship for further training, pursue higher education, or move straight into the workforce, often with the same employer.
The Maryland Office of Apprenticeship, Maryland State Department of Education, and individual school systems work directly with each employer to develop training plans and match qualified students with open positions.
More than 2,000 high school students and 1,000 employers have participated in the AMP Program since 2016.
