MEET JASON...
A pre-apprenticeship leads Jason to discover his passion for a career working in the electrical contractor field.
Jason was a senior at North County High School when he began attending the Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation’s (AAWDC's) CareerX class to explore career options and participate in an internship experience. The idea of working in an electrical career excited Jason, so he enrolled into the Independent Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship program offered as a partnership between Anne Arundel County Public Schools, the International Electrical Contractors-Chesapeake (IEC-Chesapeake) chapter, and AAWDC. The more Jason learned, the more his passion grew like wildfire.
In addition to receiving soft skills training, Jason utilized numerous career services and resources through AAWDC. He worked closely with his Career Coach to strengthen his resume, build interview skills, learn financial literacy, and explore job search strategies. In addition to career services, AAWDC provided Jason with supportive services to set him up for success, such as financial support for transportation and driver's education assistance, professional attire and tools, and CPR and OSHA training. AAWDC helped place Jason in his paid pre-apprenticeship training and connected him with virtual job shadowing exposure.
As a result of the time Jason invested in his own career development, he was offered a position as an Electrical Apprentice at BoMark Electric and started his new role in June 2024. He also started apprenticeship night class training at IEC-Chesapeake in the fall. Jason is very pleased with how these experiences unfolded. "My internship experience in the electrical field has been a transformative journey, providing invaluable insights and skills that will resonate throughout my academic and professional pursuits."
