Minutes of Public Meeting - September 9, 2024

In accordance with §3-302, General Provisions Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, the Maryland Racing Commission (“Commission”) met in person and by conference call in open session at 12:30 p.m. at Laurel Park on September 9, 2024. At the start of the meeting, Chairman George Mahoney took a roll call of the Commission members and confirmed that all were present except Konrad Wayson.

Minutes - August 15, 2024

The Commission waived a reading of the minutes of its meeting on August 15, 2024, and voted to approve them unanimously.

Maryland Jockey Club - Update.

Mike Rogers, representing the Maryland Jockey Club, reported that the transition of the Pimlico closure was completed and thanked a number of people who participated in the transition. Specifically, Mr. Rogers thanked Mike Singletary, Dianne Piones and David Richardson. In addition, Mr. Rogers reported that with the closing of Pimlico there are two ambulances available during training and additional outriders to enhance the safety and welfare of the horses and riders during training hours at Laurel Park. Mr. Rogers reported that Maryland Million Day is scheduled for October 12, 2024 and plans were moving forward for the event. Mr. Rogers also advised that the Maryland Thoroughbred Racetrack Operating Authority plan to take over operations on January 1, 2025 was on target. Commissioner Bobbly Lillis asked about the track employees living accommodations at Laurel. Mr. Rogers responded that there were 270 residents that needed living space and that all were accommodated.

Public Comments.

Cricket Goodall reminded everyone of Maryland Million Day on October 12, 2024 and the silent auction that would be held on October 11, 2024 at the Maryland Horse Breeders Library.

Closed Session.

The Commission went into closed session to discuss a personnel matter at approximately 12:48 p.m. The Commission, after discussing the matter, adjourned from the close session at approximately 1:16 p.m.
